What kinds of things can I store in a non-climate-controlled unit?
For short-term storage, you are probably okay to store most household items in our units. For longer-term storage keep in mind that humidity and temperatures are not controlled in our storage units. Our large units have the option to add heat for an extra fee, but they are not humidity controlled or cooled in the summer. Some items will need extra precautions, such as electronics, fabric furniture, mattresses, carpets, and photos. We recommend the use of pallets on the concrete floor to allow air flow in your unit and to prevent moisture from the concrete to damage your items. It is also important to use plastic storage containers for all smaller items, especially papers or other things that could be damaged from humidity. Plastic coverings are also recommended for mattresses and fabric furniture. While we offer the use of a dehumidifier for short-term use if there is some condensation in storage units, it is important to be mindful of the types of things being stored.
Do I need contents insurance?
Yes, you need to purchase your own contents/renter's insurance to cover you in the case of fire, theft, or other damage. Inquire with the provider of your home insurance to see what is covered for storage of items.
Can I access my vehicle or RV parked in the compound during the winter?
Our storage compound has come-and-go access as needed, but when the snow arrives it should be understood that vehicles will have limited accessibility. We clear a path around the compound, but individual stalls are not cleared and once your vehicle is snowed in by drifting, Blue Ridge Storage will not be able to assist with the removal of your vehicle. If you are able to shovel it out, you can certainly remove it in the winter if desired. The snow on the path through the compound is cleared within 48 hours of the end of most major snowfalls.
Is the storage compound open 24/7?
We ask that tenants do not enter the storage compound between the hours of 12am and 6am to ensure security for all storage tenants as well as to not bother the tenants that live in the house and apartment on the premises. Any access during these hours must be approved in advance by management.
